According to his statements, one of Vladimir Putin's main justifications for the "special operation" in Ukraine is that he wants to denazify Ukraine. Ukraine is ruled by Nazis, which sounds grotesque since Zelensky himself is Jewish and many of his relatives were killed .

Nevertheless, fakes and false claims are constantly being spread that are intended to prove that Zelensky is a Nazi and that Putin is therefore right. One of these claims is a symbol on a shirt: supposedly it is the “Iron Cross,” a Nazi symbol. But it is the symbol of the Ukrainian armed forces.

The claims

The fact that Zelenskyj is wearing a Nazi symbol on his shirt is circulating in the form of a sharepic:

The real meaning of the symbol

Seleskyj wears this shirt in various videos, for example HERE . So let's just take a closer look at the symbol:

If we increase the brightness and contrast, we can identify the symbol in the middle a little better:

The symbol in the middle is the Tryzub, the Ukrainian trident (see HERE ). In 1992, the Ukrainian parliament, the Verkhovna Rada, approved the Small State Emblem of Ukraine - one of the three official symbols of the state. In 1996 its status was enshrined in the constitution.

The cross with the state emblem in the center is a simplified version of the emblem of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (see HERE ).

It is not particularly surprising that Zelensky wears a shirt with this symbol since, as President of Ukraine, he is also the commander-in-chief of the country's armed forces and these forces are currently repelling Russia's invasion.

This emblem doesn't really resemble the "Iron Cross", which is curved and has a swastika in the middle:

Conclusion

The symbol on the shirt is not a Nazi symbol, not the “Iron Cross”. Both symbols have a cross shape, but that's about it for the similarities. If the shape of the cross alone were decisive, then the University of Durnham, a Nazi training center, and the Bundeswehr's Golden Cross would also honor Nazis. However, the cross is a universal symbol that can be found in many coats of arms and on many medals.
