The claim

In an old photo from 1991, Ukrainian President Volodomir Zelenskyj is said to be seen half-naked at a gay parade.

Our conclusion

The photo is from 2006 and has been edited. The real photo shows an unknown man wearing makeup.

But yes, of course. Because if that is actually Zelensky in the photo, it would mean that he is perhaps secretly gay or at least bi, and also gay, and we all know that such people have no competence to hold any office, since they are homosexuals only think about sex with the same sex, right?

The fake Zelensky photo at a gay parade

The photo is said to have been taken at a gay parade in New York in 1991:

Is that Zelensky?
Is that Zelensky?

The text on the sharepic reads:

“The attached picture was taken in New York in 1991.
Guess who the person is who is holding the cigarette. Little tip: Lives in Ukraine and always wants something from everyone.😂”

1991? Seriously? Apparently the creator of the sharepic is not only bad at spelling, but also at mathematics: The Ukrainian president was born in 1978 and would therefore only be 13 years old in the photo !

But before it circulated in German-speaking countries, it first made the rounds on Twitter through English-speaking troll accounts (easily recognizable by the Russian flag and many false claims in the tweets):

Still not Zelensky
Still not Zelensky

However, this time it was 1999 and in Los Angeles. Can't the trolls at least agree on the date and location? This will never happen with the disinformation campaign!

The real photo

However, the photo is not from 1999, nor from 1991, but from Gay Pride on June 25, 2006 and was published on Flickr (see HERE ).

What a surprise: That's not Volodomir Selenskyj in the photo, but an unknown man with make-up!

Who would have thought: Trolls manipulate photos to cause trouble!
