Coesfeld – On Tuesday afternoon (July 4th, 1:55 p.m.) the Coesfeld police received information from third parties about an act of violence in Olfen and a threat in a school complex in Lüdinghausen.

Investigators were quickly able to refute the evidence of the violent act in Olfen; the person who was allegedly seriously injured was found unharmed.

“Since the alleged threat could not initially be found, the police in Lüdinghausen made all the necessary preparations to avert a potential danger to students and teachers,”

explained the operations manager, police director Martin Mönnighoff in Münster.

“All students left the building and police officers then searched the rooms.”

If there is a risk of a threat or an attack in a school, the Münster Police Headquarters takes over the management of operations by default.

Coesfeld police officers found the suspect - a 15-year-old student from Olfen - near his parents' apartment at around 4:15 p.m. During an initial interview, investigators learned that the student had left the house angry after a family argument about truancy. Statements made in this context were obviously misinterpreted.

“If an act of violence or a shooting is threatened in a school, the police must act reliably and quickly,”

explained the operations manager.

“That’s why we take every tip in this context very seriously.”
