Have you been chosen for an inheritance of 50,000 euros and all you have to do is open a bank account? Hands off!

“You don’t play with other people’s feelings” – many of us have heard this sentence in our lives and some still do it. For example, in the form of a fantasy story in which the narrator pretends to be a doomed person. And because she's going to die soon anyway, she still has 50,000 euros to give away.

A 49-year-old from Kaiserslautern recently received this heartbreaking story by email. But in order to claim the “inheritance”, the woman’s lawyer needs the bank details, personal data and photos of the recipient’s ID card. He should also open a bank account with a specific bank.

Now the man became suspicious. Why open a bank account? He contacted the police. The scam is well known there: Most of the time, alleged lawyers, notaries or bank employees demand a “fee” for the transfer of the “inheritance”. They do this until the injured party realizes that they have been cheated. The perpetrators also try to get the victim to open an online account with a bank. The fraudsters gain access to the account via fake emails to the victim and their data.

The perpetrators then use the bank details for further fraudulent crimes. Therefore: assume that a stranger will not give you money. Never share personal information with unknown people. Don't pay money to strangers. If you have fallen victim to such a scam, contact the police.
