There have been increasing attempts at fraud using the telephone number of the district court in Wilhelmshaven in the last few weeks! As the police report, a male person pretended to be an employee of the enforcement department of the local court and asked to pay an amount of several hundred euros, otherwise enforcement measures would be taken based on an enforcement order that was allegedly available to the local court. The amount is suitable to avert possible enforcement measures and to exempt from payment of the entire claim.
The district court in Wilhelmshaven points out that claims of this kind have no legal basis and are under no circumstances made by its employees. If people have already made payments, they are advised to file a criminal complaint with the police.
The scam “call ID spoofing” or “call spoofing” is not unknown: the caller deliberately uses technical manipulation to use a false caller ID in order to conceal their own identity. The police advise never to give out sensitive personal information over the phone or to make a transfer based on a call. The conversation should end immediately. If in doubt, you should call the relevant authority yourself to inquire.
