Amazon has long been offering its customers various markings such as “price tip” or “bestseller” to indicate particularly popular or cheap products. However, there is now a new warning on offer: an orange box warns potential buyers of a “frequently returned item”. This signals that the item has been returned more frequently by customers in the past.

Although Amazon allows unused products to be returned within 30 days, the process is cumbersome for both parties. For this reason, the US group plans to optimize the returns process in the future to save both customers and itself time and effort.

Amazon warns about frequently returned items: Selected products receive new labeling

According to a report by The Information, select products on Amazon's website already have a "commonly returned item" warning flag. It includes a Pro-Ject record player and two dresses. However, the warning is only visible to logged in customers . Interestingly, these products generally receive high ratings, but some comments point out existing shortcomings.

An Amazon spokeswoman said the "frequent returns information" was introduced to encourage customers to make "better decisions." The feature is still in “shipping,” meaning it is not yet available to all Amazon customers.

When the clue pops up, you better look twice

It is advisable to take a closer look at goods with the label “often returned” as it indicates that the product has been returned by customers multiple times in the past. This can be an indication that the product may not meet customers' expectations or may have defects. If an item is returned frequently, it is more likely that there will be more problems with the product or its functionality.
