If a package cannot be delivered, Amazon will send it back to the seller. Actually, you just have to remember this one sentence, because then you can save a lot of money by never buying so-called “mystery boxes”, which unfortunately are also offered directly by the online mail order company and therefore give even more of the wrong impression that they are directly from them.

The mystery boxes on Amazon

It is important to know that Amazon is an online marketplace like eBay or Etsy, this needs to be clearly stated as many users seem to believe that because a product is on Amazon it must automatically be good. However, this is a false conclusion because no direct quality analysis is carried out.

Anyone can act as a seller there, but if there are too many violations you will be thrown out again. This doesn't really bother many Chinese traders, they simply open a new account and then offer these and similar “mystery boxes”:

Only supposed remaining stock from the online mail order company
Only supposed remaining stock from the online mail order company

The online mail order company's logo on the package is intended to suggest that it is Amazon remaining stock, but with just a few clicks you can see who is behind it. The name alone under the buy buttons seems suspicious:

Bizarre dealer name
Bizarre dealer name

Clicking on the name then shows where the goods actually come from:

CN = China and a tongue twister business name
CN = China and a tongue twister business name

It's worth taking a look at the reviews!

Many of these retailers are very new to Amazon and have had very little or no reviews, but some of these retailers have been around for years and are able to hold on well because they also sell “normal” goods and get mediocre to good reviews for them (which often appear to be fake) and therefore fly “under the radar” so to speak – they always narrowly avoid being kicked off the platform.

When looking at the reviews, always look at the worst reviews first, as these are usually the most honest. So let's take a look at what customers wrote about the alleged remaining stock:

Various customer reviews

Can't return or refund? This contradicts German law!

Since these products are offered on the German version of the platform, German law also applies. Many retailers try to avoid this by inserting sentences like this into the descriptions:

A contradiction to German law
A contradiction to German law

Since this is a “special product,” returns and refunds are not supported by the retailer – nice try, but that’s not how it works. After concluding a distance contract, generally has a right of withdrawal in accordance with Section 355 of the German Civil Code (BGB) .

be canceled within 14 days of receipt of goods without giving reasons

With persistence to success

As a dealer and customer, colleague Beate is very experienced with such dealers from China and can give the following tip: persist!

There are several ways to contact the retailer directly on Amazon. There you can then clearly point out the right of withdrawal and ask to receive a return slip from the retailer so that the goods can be sent back free of charge.

Since a return to China is usually much more expensive than the actual goods, many customers shy away from returning them, and dealers will only rarely issue a free return slip, which is why they often offer at least a partial refund - which is better for the dealer is considered a bad review!

Then you still have an often useless cheap product, but at least you have some of the money back - and the experience of being careful with future orders!

Conclusion

Finally, the following point to remember: If a package cannot be delivered, Amazon will send it back to the seller. So there aren't really any remaining stock sales from Amazon, especially not from dubious Chinese retailers with unpronounceable business names!

But if you really want to burn money, then order the packages anyway. Or do something more useful with it and support our work . 😉

Also interesting: On Facebook you always see advertisements about “unclaimed Amazon packages”.
Shown are pallets full of packages and boxes that can supposedly be bought particularly cheaply. Stay away from it! – “Unclaimed Amazon packages”: That’s what’s behind it!
