Passau: The Lower Bavaria police were able to identify a 16-year-old who triggered a major operation last week through a prank caller and caused costs in the five-figure range.

As 'BR24', the 'Süddeutsche Zeitung' and the 'Passauer Neue Presse' report, there was a nasty caller joke last week that caused police operations in the lower five-figure range.

The police were able to identify a 16-year-old as the perpetrator.

The teenager from Unterallgäu confesses. An exact motive is not yet known.

Threat of attack just fake

On Friday last week, an anonymous call triggered a major operation around 7:30 p.m.

The police initially classified the young voice on the other end as a woman's voice.

The call was received at the Passau Clinic and reported an attack on the university campus in which several people were seriously injured and were expected to arrive at the clinic shortly.

The teenager posed as a police officer.

Large police presence

With the support of the university management, around 50 emergency services searched the clinic and university campus areas over a wide area.

After no evidence of an attack could be found, the police finally gave the all-clear.

Among other things, a police dog and police helicopter were used.

According to the Lower Bavaria police, the costs amount to around 20,000 euros, which the person responsible will probably have to repay.

You can also expect to be charged with misuse of emergency calls and faking a crime.
