Vienna: Urgent appeal from the mayor

In the last few hours, despite the exit restrictions set by the federal government, there have been gatherings of people in many of the city's offices. Due to the current situation, the Vienna city administration asks for compliance with these requirements and consideration and is publishing an urgent appeal from the Mayor of the City of Vienna, Dr. Michael Ludwig:

Dear Viennese,

These are difficult times that we are currently experiencing and going through - many people are worried about themselves and those around them. I understand that, we all want to avoid a possible infection with the corona virus. That's why I say, adhere to the federal government's guidelines and regulations - be careful with yourself and those around you.

And also because I'm now hearing more and more that many people want to use the opportunity of the exit restrictions to carry out their official business in peace and quiet - there are sometimes queues in the district offices - and also in the hospitals because many people have health questions.

I will say it very clearly: do not risk your life and the lives of all those who serve the public. Stay at home and only go to an office in really urgent and unavoidable situations - think about it: for the next 14 days almost everything will be switched to emergency mode - therefore, except in absolute emergencies, it is not necessary for you to go to an office now or visit an authority. As soon as the all-clear is given, you can still do all your errands - and not risk anyone else's or your health. Many people also have the option of applying by telephone and online.

Be sensible - stay at home - everything you need to live at the moment is given to you: grocery stores are open, electricity, water, gas, garbage disposal and public transport - not to mention that the emergency services, hospitals and care facilities, are there for you around the clock. The kindergartens and schools are also available with childcare services if there is no other option.

Dear Viennese, the times we are currently experiencing are difficult: for the protection of everyone, I ask you: do not endanger yourself or others and adhere to these strict guidelines until further notice.

All the best and stay healthy.

Yours, Michael Ludwig, Mayor of the City of Vienna
