Apple users beware: A new wave of phishing threatens your security. Fraudsters are after your personal data and use a clever method: They send emails in the name of Apple that warn that iCloud storage is supposedly full. They try to lure recipients into a trap with the alarming subject “Your file may be deleted.”

The memory expansion scam

The email presents an invoice with the invoice date, order number and other information, but remains vague about exactly which items or services are involved.

It suggests that iCloud storage needs to be increased to avoid “data sync and security issues.” A link promising “Get up to 50GB” is intended to lure users to a fraudulent website.

Recognize warning signals and react correctly

This scam is not new. There was already a similar attempt on May 12, 2023 to trick users into entering their credit card information. This attempted fraud can be easily uncovered based on the sender address and the unprofessional structure of the email - as well as a link that does not lead to an official Apple website. The most important advice: Do not click on the link and move such emails directly to the spam folder.

Conclusion: Safety begins with attention

These incidents demonstrate the importance of remaining vigilant and critically reviewing emails, especially if they contain unexpected prompts or warnings. Your best protection is to act informed and cautious in the digital space.
