A nursing service and its information to employees regarding the corona protection vaccination. What's it?

“Employees are put under pressure.” This is the content of a posting that is currently being widely shared Facebook This posting includes a photo, this photo shows a letter from a nursing service.

This nursing service informed its employees on January 6, 2021 that they should please agree to the corona vaccination. This is preceded by a list of names in which the company's employees should register.

This list of names was intended to clearly show how willing employees are to be vaccinated. As already mentioned in the letter, there is no compulsory vaccination. The problem at this point, however, probably lies in the sensitive professional area of nursing.

The response was probably not quite what the employer had hoped. Apparently not that many people have signed up for this list. The employer then pointed out again in this information letter that it is important for direct care workers to get vaccinated.

A transfer within the company is not possible. This means that it is not possible for employees to avoid direct service to customers in need of care. The probably critical passage in this letter is:

And since unvaccinated employees represent a health risk for customers, consequences under labor law are possible. We want to avoid personal dismissals under all circumstances and appeal to your common sense.

Visually, this letter appears in the following form on the Internet and in messengers. We have obscured all personal data:

Employees are being put under pressure?
Employees are being put under pressure?

Fact check “Employees are put under pressure”

The criticism of the letter on social media is that it is accused of an indirect vaccination requirement. It may not be so much the fault of this particular nursing service, but rather the general fears that an indirect vaccination requirement will become ubiquitous.

The allegations (not explicitly against the nursing service) are that non-vaccinated people could have their rights restricted in the future. The potential for speculation is correspondingly high.

The employer's contact details are easily visible in the original letter. Accordingly, we tried to contact the nursing service. We want to at least clarify whether this letter is real.

We received a further explanation in writing from the nursing service, which we would like to pass on here:

Since the end of last week, an internal company letter, which also refers to the issues currently being discussed in the media regarding corona vaccinations for healthcare workers and only represents part of an internal discussion, has been making the rounds in various forums. It is not only regrettable, but also frightening, given the sometimes violent hostility and threats against the company and private individuals in the last few days, that an exclusively internal vote was broadcast externally and taken out of context and with false reports and wild speculation and claims accidentally circulating on the Internet.

But we have also received many encouraging words from other nursing services, politicians and private individuals in the last few days. This gives us strength and shows how great the solidarity and cohesion still is.

As an actor in the healthcare sector, we would like to make it clear at this point that calls for hatred and violence and derogatory, offensive and inhumane language in emails, comments or telephone calls have no place in our company.

What is it really about?

It's about protection against a very dangerous virus. The point is that everyone is required to do their best to contain it, to protect the risk groups that we care for every day as a nursing service and not to endanger themselves. As employers and service providers for population groups particularly affected by the pandemic, we are therefore responsible for ensuring, as far as possible, both occupational safety and infection protection. Unfortunately, the discussion about everything related to this topic is often misused and, as our example makes clear, used to vent frustration, fear, hatred and excessive demands on us as a representative of all the insecurities of individual people.

Best regards
