At this point we would like to give a brief update on the inquiries regarding the article “Student attacked at Westbahnhof: “No one helped me” that appeared in the Austrian free newspaper “Heute”, as the initial answers from the police suggest that this is the case a more detailed description could be useful.

SPONSORED AD

First of all, the content: the article appeared on the newspaper's website on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at 3:10 a.m. This article describes that a Viennese student, whose name was changed to “Sabina” by Today, said she was brutally attacked by 4 men last week at around 9 p.m. at the Westbahnhof in Vienna. So on an evening between April 25th, 2016 and May 1st, 2016. According to the article, these were 4 Afghans who acted with great brutality [ 1].

Furthermore, it is important to look not only at the attack itself, but also at the statements made in the article about the police.

First of all, about our testing equipment: the statements are almost untestable for us! However, since we live in Vienna ourselves, we can at least undertake a geographical analysis and confirm that Westbahnhof is indeed not the most pleasant place to be. At this point in time, we are therefore holding back from any analysis , as we cannot/do not want/may not assume that the statement is untrue. Instead, we wait for official reports.

Inquiries made

We have asked both the Vienna police and the editor responsible for the article. Both bodies were the first to give feedback that the incident was under review.

Today's editor's response to the query:

Meanwhile a second article

A few minutes ago a second article on the topic appeared on “Heute.at” in which politicians’ voices have their say. There is currently no new information, but there are statements from various politicians about the rates presented by the police. [ 2]

Note at this point for German readers: this is Vienna, Austria. Here Faymann is the Federal Chancellor.
