The Japanese drinks manufacturer Asahi Premium Beverages has had to stop an Instagram advertisement for its Alcopops “Vodka Cruiser” in Australia

According to the responsible media regulator, the Advertising Standards Bureau , the advertising improperly targets young people.

In addition, according to studies by the Cancer Council Victoria , it has been proven that early alcohol consumption increases the risk of cancer later on.

“We are concerned that this type of social media advertising is happening behind the scenes and that alcohol brands are using this to directly target youth,”

explains Cancer Council Victoria legal advisor Sarah Jackson.

The risk of cancer increases the earlier young people turn to alcohol. Alcopops in particular are considered an entry-level drink.

“Alcohol poses a risk for various types of cancer. When young people are exposed to alcohol advertising, this makes them more likely to resort to alcohol or drink more intensively,”

said Jackson.

Asahi has removed all content from his Instagram website and no longer wants to use it.

The company has admitted that the model used looks younger than 25.

But not that she is under the age of 18.
