Guben – Friday evening, around 9:30 p.m., the police were informed of an attack on asylum seekers.

Four asylum seekers from Afghanistan were coming from a soccer game in the evening when they were mobbed by a group of around 10 young German men near Otto-Nuschke-Strasse. A short time later, a 34-year-old asylum seeker and his 13-year-old son were physically attacked from this group. The perpetrators fled.

The two victims had to be treated medically in hospital. The father had to remain in hospital for observation because of his facial injuries. His son was able to be discharged after outpatient care.

The police assume that the crime has a xenophobic background. An investigative group led by the State Criminal Police Office was formed and began work immediately.
