Press release

April 7, 2023 - Mimikama, the platform for solving internet fraud and hoaxes, vehemently warns about a current scam being spread via WhatsApp. These are supposedly free Easter gift baskets from Lindt, which in reality represent a dangerous trap for unsuspecting users.

The fraudsters spread the offer via WhatsApp messages to supposedly give away free Lindt gift baskets as part of an Easter campaign. To receive this, users should click on a link that redirects them to a fake website. There they will be asked to enter personal information and take part in a survey.

Mimikama strongly warns against falling for such messages, clicking on links or revealing personal information. Fraudsters use this information to commit identity theft or to target victims with spam and phishing attacks. In addition, participation in the supposed survey can lead to victims unintentionally taking out subscriptions or using paid services.

Mimikama calls on WhatsApp users to be vigilant and not to spread such messages. If in doubt, you should ask the company directly whether this is a legitimate promotion. To protect yourself from fraud and false reports on the Internet, it is advisable to always be vigilant and only disclose information on trustworthy sites.
