The claim

There are claims on social media that Australian farmers are being forced by DPI (The Department of Primary Industries) to have their cows vaccinated with an mRNA vaccine. Of 200 cattle, 35 died immediately after vaccination. Now the consumption of meat and dairy products should also be viewed as questionable.

Our conclusion

In fact, research is currently underway in Australia on mRNA vaccines for livestock, as foot-and-mouth disease and Lumpe Skin Disease in particular pose a major threat to the livestock industry. However, a fully developed, tested and effective mRNA vaccine for these diseases is not expected to be available until August 2023 at the earliest.

False claims on social media

A social media post ( archived HERE ) reports a dramatic incident in New South Wales, Australia.
There, farmers would be forced by the DPI (The Department of Primary Industries) to have their cattle vaccinated with an mRNA vaccine. Of 200 cattle, 35 died immediately after this mRNA vaccination. In addition, it is claimed that the DNA of the dairy herd would also be changed by this vaccination and that this change would therefore be detectable in all products made from milk, as well as in beef. This means that the consumption of these products is equivalent to an mRNA vaccination on humans. The post calls on farmers to protest against these supposed forced vaccinations in order to protect the animals but also the consumers.

However, there is no comment on which diseases these cattle were vaccinated against.

Is there actually a compulsory mRNA vaccination for cattle in Australia?

No. However, research into mRNA vaccines for livestock is currently being conducted in Australia. Detailed information here:

In fact, on September 28, 2022, a media release was by the DPI reporting that the New South Wales Government had taken another step towards developing mRNA vaccines against Foot and Mouth Disease and Lumpe Skin Disease. This step is the signing of a contract with a US biotechnology company that has been commissioned to develop these vaccines. Since the two diseases mentioned pose a major threat to livestock farming in Australia, the aim is to have both vaccines developed, tested and manufactured ready for use by August 1, 2023. The Minister of Agriculture Dugald Saunders has a lot of hope for this technology and argues as follows:

“mRNA vaccines are cheaper and quicker to produce, highly effective and very safe.”Because they are fully synthetic and do not require any animal or microbial products, they do not carry with them the same risks as traditionally derived vaccines.” (sic! )

“mRNA vaccines are cheaper and quicker to produce, highly effective and very safe: “Because they are fully synthetic and do not require animal or microbial products, they do not pose the same risks as conventionally produced vaccines.” (sic!) (Translated with DeepL)

This publicly accessible media release shows that the statement on social media regarding compulsory vaccination of cattle with mRNA vaccines is incorrect, as research is currently being carried out on the vaccines but they have not yet been approved. After successful research, such a vaccine cannot be expected until August 2023 at the earliest. A representative of the Deputy Prime Minister of New South Wales also confirmed to AFP .

Who is spreading this statement?

According to AFP Fact Check, this false news was spread by a prominent anti-vaccination activist in Australia among his approximately 70,000 followers. Another indication that there is always false news on this account is that a note appears on his Instagram profile that several independent fact checkers and/or Instagram guides have already discovered false information on his profile. That's why Instagram imposed a 90-day restriction on this account.

Conclusion

In fact, research is currently underway in Australia on mRNA vaccines for livestock, as foot-and-mouth disease and Lumpe Skin Disease in particular pose a major threat to the livestock industry. However, a fully developed, tested and effective mRNA vaccine for these diseases is not expected to be available until August 2023 at the earliest.
