OK. No frills, no detours, just pure basics. The “ SICHER LEBEN in Graz ” association has published 10 tips against internet crime on its Facebook page.

1.Protecting your PC
The top priority is to have good security equipment for your computer. To protect your PC from malicious files, you should install an anti-virus program and a firewall before using the Internet for the first time.

2. Emails and chat
Only open emails from trusted senders. Delete dubious emails from unknown people as soon as possible!

3. Software
Pay attention to which software or additional programs (“plug-ins”) you install. One danger is malware that is hidden in free downloads or pirated copies from dubious providers.

4. File sharing
If you exchange files with strangers on the Internet, you risk having your PC infected with malware.

5. Online shopping
Signs of the seriousness of an online shop are an imprint with the name and address of the company, the managing director or a sales tax identification number (UID number) as well as clear terms and conditions (GTC).

6. Payment on the web
When purchasing goods on the Internet, caution is generally advised, especially when paying in advance

7. Online banking
When banking online, you should always enter the bank's official address directly or access it using your own bookmarks, so-called favorites.

8. Private information, photos and passwords
Most people would hardly reveal their private life to strangers in everyday life. This is particularly true when dealing with private photos and personal data, such as telephone numbers or home addresses. Once published, photos can have a negative impact.

9. Offers as a goods or financial agent
Offers to work as a goods or financial agent on the Internet or by email must be consistently rejected.

10. Apps and subscription traps
Be aware that apps incur costs and can transmit sensitive user data! This can often happen without these being necessary for the apps to function.
