Emotions regarding the attack on the Bremen politician Magnitz have been running high for days.

Not least because the initial description of the attack by the party of which Magnitz is a member, based on his own account, was refuted in many points by the police and public prosecutor's office. Furthermore, recently a supposed letter of confession, which, according to various people, was published on Indymedia, has now been deleted and can still be found in an archived version.

The content of the letter of confession is less relevant at this point, but rather the verifiability of it or the impossibility of verifying it. To do this you have to understand how Indymedia works.

Anonymous open medium

That's why we're going to put it right here: It is not possible to determine whether the letter is real or a false flag fake.

And that is simply due to the nature of Indymedia, where this letter appeared. EVERY USER has the OPPORTUNITY to publish content there. It does not require registration or verification of an account, nor any information about the author.

Since platform-internal moderators only check these articles after they have been published, if the content appears suspicious, it will only be deleted afterwards. This was the case, for example, in an earlier false flag article when a false statement of responsibility regarding the attack on the BVB team bus in April 2017 was published ( we reported ).

That means in plain language

Of course, this letter certainly existed; the archives confirm this ( see here ).

Verification of authorship is not possible due to the nature of the Indymedia platform. At this point we will not participate in any speculation as to whether the authorship is correct as described, whether it is a false flag claim or whether third parties have ultimately made a joke.

Everything is possible. But nothing is fixed
