Some people can hardly save themselves from working from home or elsewhere during the Corona period, others seem to have too much time to develop their criminal energy.

The second type apparently includes cybercriminals and hackers, who appear to have been particularly active since the beginning of the pandemic. The Federal Office for Information Security (BSI) is now warning of a particularly bold scam.

“Jens Spahn” would like to get an offer

The authors of the new phishing emails pose as Germany's Health Minister Jens Spahn and pretend in their messages that they want to obtain an offer for the federal government. It seems as if the impression is to be created that the federal government is looking for a possible supplier for materials not specified in the message. The content of the email is written in English and states that a list of the requested products is attached. But what can really be found there, according to reports from the Federal Administration's “Computer Emergency Response Team” (CERT-Bund): malware.

Cybercriminals are targeting company networks

The aim behind this seems to be to lure companies with a potentially lucrative contract from the federal government. Observations by phishing experts have shown that such attacks have increased in the past, particularly on company networks. The Covid-19 pandemic in particular appears to be a particularly attractive time for cybercriminals.
