Scammers are currently using a bold scam to deceive helpful people!

Fraudsters are currently using a bold scam to deceive helpful people and sell them invalid banknotes. On August 1st, 2019 also in the Regensburg district. The police advise caution.

On Thursday evening, around 6:30 p.m., a 30-year-old from Regenstauf was approached by an unknown person in a parking lot. The man asked to exchange a 1000 Leu (RON) note from Romania. The unsuspecting victim did some research on the internet and determined a value of around 210 euros.

This actually corresponded to the value of the valid currency.

What is relatively unknown here is that the 1000 Leu banknote has no longer been valid since the currency reform in 2005. At most, a collector's value of less than 20 euros can be viewed here.

The unsuspecting woman ultimately handed over 150 euros and received the almost worthless banknote in return. Similar cases were reported to the police in July in Neuburg/Donau and in Marktschorgast.

The police advise:

  • Do not accept unknown currencies from strangers!
  • If you are asked to do this by someone you don't know, remember the vehicle's license plate number and the person's appearance if necessary!
  • Inform the police!
