US President Joe Biden sees democratic systems worldwide in danger. He made the remarks at the opening of a virtual conference with representatives from around a hundred countries. Worldwide the trend is “mostly in the wrong direction”.
“This meeting has been bothering me for a long time, for one simple reason.
Given the ongoing and alarming challenges to democracy, to universal human rights and to the world at large, democracy needs successful role models. “I wanted to host this summit because in the United States we know as well as anywhere else that renewing our democracy and strengthening our democratic institutions requires constant effort,” Biden said.
