In a video circulating on the Internet, a politician leads a tour of a supposedly empty Corona clinic.

The video is being shared on all social media platforms and is intended to show that a hospital for COVID-19 patients in São Paulo was empty.
This video appeared in the early summer of last year. Since January of this year it has been increasingly shared again.

It is the hospital in Anhembi Parque. The lady leading the video is Brazilian politician Adriana Borgo. In the video she appears outraged. The extent of the corona pandemic is being questioned: “Look how many people here are really sick with corona.” The beds in the clinic are empty, it would be a waste of taxpayers’ money.

Misrepresentations in the video

This was originally a live video from Adriana Borgo that was shared on Facebook, but is now no longer available on the platform. An excerpt was taken from this video and shared further and further, like here on Instagram .

The backgrounds are bold. Borgo and several other politicians had gained unauthorized access by pretending to carry out an inspection, as the local newspaper “Folha de S.Paulo” reported on June 4th.

The Brazilian site “Agência Lupa” published an article at the beginning of June 2020. The video was recorded during construction work on the Corona Clinic, in a wing that did not yet house any patients.

Once completed, there should be space for up to 1,800 patients. Agência Lupa points out that on June 4, when the Borgo video was recorded, there were 407 COVID patients in the Campanha do Anhembi clinic, as can be seen in this report on page 2.

In another video by Adriana Borgo, which she published on Facebook, which has since been deleted, you could even have seen patients in hospital beds, reports Correctiv .

Conclusion

The video does show an empty hospital unused wing of the Corona Clinic , which was under construction at the time.
