London: British Prime Minister Theresa May signs official Brexit letter to the EU

As 'Zeit' and 'Handelsblatt' report, May has signed the official declaration of Great Britain's exit from the EU.

For the first time since the founding of the European Union, a member state is leaving the confederation after 40 years of EU membership.

In June 2016, the British voted by a narrow majority to leave in a referendum.

The terms of the exit must be negotiated within two years, although difficult discussions are to be expected.

A special summit taking place on April 29th is intended to define the positions of the remaining EU countries.

According to experts, the EU should be able to demand payments of up to 60 billion euros from Great Britain, which the Prime Minister questioned.
