In another raid, we had already reported on a raid in December 2022 , apartments of members of the “Last Generation” in Munich and Augsburg were searched. The operation aimed to secure evidence related to allegations of forming or supporting a criminal organization. The group's website was blocked, which led to discussions. Opinions about the campaign and the text on the website are divided. The activists responded sarcastically and mentioned alternative ways of financial support.

Nationwide searches and measures to secure assets at “Last Generation”

The Munich Public Prosecutor's Office, the Bavarian Central Office for Combating Extremism and Terrorism (ZET), is conducting an investigation into suspected criminal offenses by members of the so-called “Last Generation”. As part of this process, officials from the Munich Public Prosecutor's Office, the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office (BLKA) and other federal states are now searching 15 properties throughout Germany. At the same time, two account seizure orders and an asset arrest order to secure assets will be executed.

Due to numerous criminal complaints from the public that have been received since mid-2022, the Munich Public Prosecutor's Office initiated an investigation against a total of seven defendants between the ages of 22 and 38 on charges of forming or supporting a criminal organization in accordance with Section 129 Paragraph 1 Sentence . 1, 2 StGB. The Bavarian State Criminal Police Office (BLKA) in Munich was commissioned to carry out the police investigation.

The accused are accused of organizing a fundraising campaign to finance further crimes for the “Last Generation”, advertising it on their homepage and having collected at least 1.4 million euros in donations so far. According to what we know so far, this money was mainly used to commit other crimes by the association.

Two suspects are also suspected of attempting to sabotage the Trieste-Ingolstadt oil pipeline (so-called critical infrastructure in Bavaria) in April 2022.

The aim of the searches is to find evidence about the membership structure of the “Last Generation”, to further clarify its financing and to confiscate assets. No arrests have been made so far.

The “Last Generation” wants to continue its protests even after a nationwide raid

The activists will continue their peaceful protest as long as the federal government breaks its own climate laws, said spokeswoman Aimée van Baalen. She sharply objected to Scholz's statement that the climate protests were “crazy”.
