In the post on the Facebook page “Coca Cola FANS” the bait is thrown out:
“We have hundreds of mini-fridges that we cannot sell due to minor scratches.
Since it is still in good condition, we decided to give it away to everyone who liked, shared and wrote “Done” the post. Do it now because time is limited, good luck.”
Update July 4th, 2023: Another page with the same name, just a different font, is promoting a fake competition with similar wording: “We have hundreds of mini refrigerators that we cannot sell due to minor scratches.
Since it is still in good condition, we decided to give it away to everyone who likes it, shares it and writes “Done” on our page. We also randomly added 200 gift bags.
Do it now because time is limited, good luck.”
In place of “mini fridges” we could now use various options: “E-bikes, tiny houses, campers, cars, …” – the bait for alleged winning opportunities is always identical. You should like posts, put a comment like “Done”, “Congratulations”, etc. underneath them, and you’re in the supposed winner’s pool.
Still, there is nothing to be gained here
The link provided in the post takes you to a page that at first glance may look like it has something to do with Coca Cola, but we can already tell from the URL that this is a dubious one Site: sites.google.com/….
This is a Google page that every Google user can create for free. No reputable company would do that. The title here is “Coca Cola Germany”. However, the real side of the company can be found HERE .
The logo and images were simply stolen and used for the fake site.
A little further down the page we find the note that we are “winners of this competition”. To win a year's supply of Coca Cola and a mini fridge, all you have to do is register here.
If we look at the lowercase letters, we learn that if you participate, the organizers and sponsors are allowed to contact us by email, post, telephone and/or SMS about various offers. As soon as we click on the “Join 100% Free” button, another page opens.
This now states that there is a SPAR voucher worth 250 euros to win.
At the end you have submitted your data, but you will not win a mini fridge or a year's supply of Coca Cola or a shopping voucher from SPAR. Instead …
The door is open to spam
On this page we also receive the information that the data transmitted will be passed on to third parties who may contact you for advertising purposes by email, telephone, SMS or post.
Under the link to “third-party providers” there is a long, very long list of different companies that would be happy to receive your data. They then add these to their contact list, and then it starts with spam , calls, subscription sales, etc. - annoying!
Therefore: stay away from such competitions! Warn other people if you see them commenting or sharing such posts. Help us educate so that this avalanche of fakes stops rushing over us.
We also list current fake competitions for you on our site: HERE
