Be careful with leaflets that have been appearing in supermarkets since the beginning of April. The notices do not come from the supermarket in question.

Corona information notices in supermarkets

The handouts recommend avoiding purchasing animal products.
The notices do not come from REWE or Netto.

Leaflets repeatedly appear in supermarkets such as REWE or Netto asking people to stop buying animal products. Photos of these notices are also shared on social media.

At first glance, these look as if they actually come from the supermarket in question. The supermarket logo can be found on each version.

The letters have been appearing in various places since the beginning of April 2020, but the content is largely identical or very similar. The statement is limited to the appeal to stop buying animal products in order to prevent another pandemic.

Supermarket chains such as REWE distance themselves from the letters. Upon request from Mimikama, we received the following information:

Dear Mr. Wolf,

Thank you for your mail.

The photo has already been sent to us. This is not a letter from REWE Markt GmbH.

Thank you for the clarification and best regards

Who actually produced these leaflets remains unclear. None of the affected markets received an instruction to make such a recommendation.

Conclusion:

Neither REWE nor Netto recommend that you no longer buy animal products. The leaflets are distributed by a third party on behalf of the supermarkets.

Anyone who notices such a notice should report it to the relevant supermarket.
