Krefeld: Yesterday, February 15, 2017, the police became aware of a case of attempted fraud in which a roofing company charged excessive prices for unnecessary work on a terraced house.

At around 12:40 p.m., a witness informed the police about roofing work on Kleiststrasse that seemed suspicious to him.

The residents (81 and 88 years old) told the officers that two men from a roofing company rang the doorbell and offered to clean the gutters. The couple agreed to the work.

During the cleaning work, an employee told the 81-year-old that the roof needed to be replaced. She also agreed to this work.

The couple was not given a cost estimate or a document about the craftsmanship work carried out.

The officers found the craftsmen and established their identities.

According to initial investigations, the men rang the doorbell at several terraced houses on Kleiststrasse and offered services.

The police warn:

Never let strangers or tradesmen into the house that you did not hire yourself. If in doubt, call the police.
