Oscar Lundahl made a bizarre catch:
off the Norwegian coast he caught a
“dinosaur-like” monster fish with huge eyes.

A 19-year-old made an extraordinary catch off the Norwegian coast. With its huge eyes, the sea creature looks like a “dinosaur-like” monster fish.

Oscar Lundahl works as a guide at Nordic Sea Angling and told British newspaper metra.co.uk:

“We were actually looking for Greenland Halibut when I suddenly felt a tug on the rod.”

It took around 30 minutes to reel in the catch. Two halibut and a specimen completely unknown to Lundahl hung on the fishing line.

“It just looked strange, a bit dinosaur-like.”

His colleagues identified the “monster fish” as a “sea cat,” first described by naturalist Carl Linnaeus in 1758. Note: However, this is probably not the case, because the fish is probably a grenadier fish ( compare ).

Unfortunately, Lundahl's catch did not survive the journey to the surface of the water - the pressure difference was simply too great.

He fried the fish in butter at home and apparently it tasted better than expected:

“Despite its ugly appearance, it was really tasty – a bit like cod, only better.”
