A picture of several children in a kindergarten has been circulating on social media for a year.

What is noticeable, however, is that several dark-skinned children sit apart from the light-skinned children. Apparently the image is still , which is what the inquiries about it show us:

How did the picture with the children come about?

In January 2019, the first day of school began for many children at the Schweizer-Reneke primary school in the town of the same name in South Africa.
To reassure parents that everything was going well, the teacher sent this picture to the school's WhatsApp group.

When parents were upset about the obvious racial segregation in the class and quickly shared the picture on social media, the teacher sent another picture after the break, which showed the dark-skinned children at a table with the other children.

The consequences

The next day, several parents gathered in front of the school to demonstrate against this segregation. As part of investigations, Education Minister Sello Lehare also came to the school to get her own opinion on the situation.

After a meeting with school staff and members of the Ministry of Education, Sello Lehare confirmed that the teacher was immediately suspended.
