We have already taken up the topic of “Moselkurier” twice so far and have even been discussed by the Moselkurier ( wink ). The Moselkurier, a fake news project, which is ultimately classified as fake-fake news.

Between great and borderline: the Moselkurier has never made a secret of the fact that it spreads fake news. On the contrary, all news stories are made up in such a way that they show in a more or less clear way that they are fakes [ 1 ]. This worked on the one hand through redirects, but on the other hand through metatext information that carries clear messages (note: copy the link “www.moselkurier.de” on Facebook into the post field and see what kind of preview image loads.)

However, the content became problematic the moment the first screenshots of the content were created, which were distributed independently of the link to the Moselkurier [ 2 ]. Of course, the didactic component of the site was eliminated and the catch mechanisms that pointed to the site being fake were no longer so clear.

The background

Lars Wienand, head of social media at the Funke media group, has now had a conversation with Christian Brandes, the man behind the fake fake news. Christian Brandes is also known among bloggers Schlecky Silberstein Bohemian Browser Ballett .

The idea for the Moselle courier:

Using satirical exaggeration, we want to raise awareness of the fact that not everything is true just because it is on the internet.

The content is fictitious, the images come from stock photo platforms. Nevertheless: despite clear references and obviously constructed content, the Moselkurier comes across as authentic.

The whole interview

Why this works so far, what exactly the individual ideas look like and when the project ends can be found in the interview “Why this man puts fake-fake news into the world” on the Berliner Morgenpost website:
