In the dispute over Facebook's usage rules, German consumer advocates have decided to file a lawsuit against the world's largest online network.

Facebook has not issued the requested cease and desist declaration, explained a spokeswoman for the Federal Association of Consumer Organizations (VZBV).

“The VZBV will have the matter resolved in court and is currently examining the scope of the lawsuit.”

The consumer advocates had already warned Facebook at the end of February because of 19 clauses in the data protection and usage rules that they consider to be inadmissible. Facebook immediately rejected the allegations:

The company is sure that the new terms of use that have been in effect since the end of January comply with the law.

The association particularly criticizes the analysis of user data to link it to advertising.

In addition, consumer advocates criticize the real name requirement and various default settings that users would first have to reverse. They see a problem in the fact that discovery by search engines like Google is already preset - just like the group of users who can see posts by a new member.
