The case of the 26-year-old

On “Cureus” the assistant doctor Jessica Houck and the professor Dr. med. Latha Ganti a case of severe skin necrosis caused by injecting heroin with a substance called “ Rizzy ”. This powder is a toxic substance used to color the petals of plants.

The 26-year-old woman showed up at the emergency room and said she was addicted to heroin and wanted to go through rehab. However, she was turned away from the rehabilitation facility on the grounds that she should first take care of “the wounds on her arms.”

The young woman said that the sores first appeared as small spots that grew larger when she injected herself with heroin. Her friends also had similar symptoms on their arms. During the examination it was then determined that the forearms were necrotic, meaning that the skin tissue had died.

The woman was further examined at the hospital and finally admitted. After the successful operation, she was able to leave the hospital again.

Dangerous heroin additive

As if heroin alone wasn't destructive enough, the drug that the woman injected herself was mixed with so-called "Rizzy powder", which the police have been warning about since the beginning of 2018 . This is usually a powder that is used to color rose petals, for example. Since 2018, heroin has been appearing again and again, which has been mixed with “Rizzy” in order to be able to sell the portions cheaper.
