February 29, 2016: Suspicious approach to children - police carry out targeted patrols

On February 29th, 2016 we found a press report from the Bavarian police:

ALZENAU, LKR. ASCHAFFENBURG. In the past week, the Alzenau police became aware of several cases in which children had apparently been approached from a vehicle.

The unknown men were driving a silver-colored car. The children reacted correctly and told their parents about the encounters. The Alzenau police have been sensitized and are now, among other things, intensively monitoring the routes to school.

Last Wednesday, February 24, 2016, the police received notification that a 12-year-old student had been approached from a silver-colored car at the bus stop on Spessartstrasse at around 7 a.m. Two men had offered the boy a ride to school.

The boy did not get into the vehicle with the two strangers. The following Thursday, February 25, 2016, a mother told the police that her 11-year-old daughter had been offered sweets from a silver-colored car on Schloßstraße around 1:30 p.m. There is no further information about the vehicle user.

On the same day, at around 3:00 p.m., a 12-year-old girl said she was asked how to get to church on Prischoßstrasse. There were two people in a silver car who spoke to the girl.

The girl was able to identify MKK-? as part of the vehicle's license plate number. notice. At around 5:00 p.m., a silver-colored car was noticed in a suspicious manner at the sports field in Streuweg. The vehicle was driven by a 40-50 year old man with a full beard and glasses.

Despite many discrepancies in the existing reports, the police have been monitoring the routes to school at the relevant times since last Wednesday, including with civilian forces. No new insights have been gained so far.

Anyone who has made observations specifically in this matter or can provide relevant information is asked to contact the Alzenau police station immediately, Tel. 06023/994-0.

March 4, 2016: Police warn against false information on social networks

ALZENAU. After strangers are said to have approached three students in Alzenau, the police are now warning against taking alleged tips on social networks seriously.

The officials told us this when we asked. In the last few days, more and more photos of people and license plates have been making the rounds among concerned parents - but the police were unable to prove that these people had any connection to the allegations during a check.

Officials continue to monitor the routes to school at relevant times in Alzenau. However, they ask citizens to report their own observations directly to the police - instead of sharing them via Facebook and WhatsApp.
