One would think that ghost experiences and modern technology don't really go together. But on the contrary, these two things complement each other perfectly.

ZDDK mystery

Facebook is particularly suitable for this, as there are now so many profiles of people who have since died. So what happens if you suddenly get messages from your dead friend on Facebook?

The story has been spreading on the Internet since mid-2014, including screenshots that are supposed to support the events.

The story:

On August 7, 2012, Nathan's girlfriend Emily died in a car accident. Nathan and her mother decided not to close or deactivate her Facebook account. To process his grief, he wrote to her on her timeline every now and then. The only people who had direct access to her account were Nathan and Emily's mother.

After about a year, Nathan suddenly received the above chat message from Emily's account. At that point, Nathan thought that Susan (Emily's mother) had accidentally logged in using Emily's account.

In November 2013, Nathan received another message. In the meantime, he got Emily's mother to assure him that she had only logged into her account once, a week after Emily died. Nathan now suspected that it was one of Emily's friends who wanted to play a nasty prank on him.

There was peace for a while, but things continued in February 2014. Emily tagged herself in photos of Nathan in places where she used to like to stand or sit.

Of course, Nathan's friends also noticed this on Facebook. Some suspected it was a Facebook bug, others unfriended him without a word. Nathan briefly closed his Facebook account, but reactivated it within a few days because, as he said, since Emily's death he has only had contact with people via Facebook and MMOs.

Then, on March 25, 2014, Nathan received another chat message from Emily:

At this point, Nathan noticed something: Emily (or whoever was logged into her account) was using phrases that he himself had used in previous chats with her.
Nathan was now convinced that someone was playing tricks on him. He contacted Facebook, he asked on tech forums, he even changed Emily's password several times.

But it continued:

Nathan still couldn't figure out who was sending him messages.
According to Facebook, the logins to her account always came from places Nathan knew (his home, his workplace, her mother's house, etc.). “Yo ask Nathan” was an inside joke between the two. Seeing Emily write those words made Nathan shiver... he was starting to feel scared.

May 8, 2014. Emily writes a word for the first time that couldn't have been copied and pasted from previous chats:

“Freezing.” Emily describes that she is cold, she is freezing, she doesn't know what happened.

Nathan is starting to despair.

Nathan interprets this message from Emily to mean that he should “let her go”, that is: let go. He sets her account to memorial status.

But this is not the end of the story, because on July 1, 2014 Emily reports again:

The words Emily uses are the same words Nathan wrote to her on the day of her death, when he was worried that she wasn't home yet.

A day later he got the last message from Emily, which finally made Nathan's hair stand on end:

This is Nathan's front door, showing his computer. So, first take a breather...

Scary, isn't it?
