On August 3, 2016, a 16-year-old student from Bremen Hastedt was woken up by detectives from the weapons crime commissioner's office. They gave him a search warrant for the living quarters in his parents' house that were accessible to him.

The reason for the police appearance were statements made by the student in an internet chat. He posted a video in which he presented himself with a firearm while it was being loaded. He also uploaded a picture showing other weapons and also stated that he had fired them. A chat participant from Schleswig Holstein contacted the police because he didn't know how to properly assess the situation.

This was enough for the Bremen public prosecutor's office to apply to the Bremen district court for a search warrant for the student's living quarters.

When the search warrant was executed on Thursday morning, a total of eleven firearms were confiscated, including two (sharp) licensed weapons, three blank guns, two airsoft guns and four sham weapons. Since the weapons were the property of the father, an investigation was also initiated against him for illegal possession of weapons regarding the two weapons that required a permit because he did not have a valid permit. The regulations for the safe storage of weapons were also not adhered to.

The underage student had unhindered access to all weapons in his parents' home. He stated that he only made the comments in the chat to be cool and show off.

The Bremen police warn against publishing images with weapons on social networks. Whether weapons that require a license or those that do not require a license; they repeatedly trigger police operations. The police cannot always distinguish this from real firearms at first glance, which can lead to police measures up to and including the use of service weapons.
