Not even every third German company has an emergency plan to deal with the energy crisis, as a human resources manager survey of 700 human resources managers by experts from the Ifo Institute and Randstad shows.

Industry-specific strategies

“The smaller the company, the less often measures were taken. In companies with more than 500 employees, 60 percent have taken appropriate precautions. For companies with up to 50 employees it is only 15 percent.”

Strategies differ depending on the industry.

“The industry is hardest hit by the current energy price crisis. Here, at 43 percent, companies have most often prepared for a possible bottleneck. For service providers it is 25 percent. In retail the value is only 17 percent.”

No staff reductions planned

In times of a shortage of skilled workers, downsizing would hardly be considered. Instead, overtime and vacation should be reduced. Lowering the building temperature is mentioned more often.

The majority are also considering allowing more home offices and short-time work. According to those surveyed, restricting one's own business activities is considered a rather unlikely measure.
