The Gotha police inform: Rumors about an allegedly kidnapped child have no basis

Gamstädt - Gotha district (ots) - The Gotha police investigated information this week that a boy was said to have been approached by a man from a car in Gamstädt last Sunday.
Two days later, the police were informed about this by the mayor. Based on the information available, extensive audit procedures were initiated and carried out.

A 12-year-old boy was actually approached by a man at a bus stop.

The conversation between the man and the boy was about general topics in life. According to the boy, the man offered to show him Gamstädt. The boy rejected this suggestion.

The rumor mill is bubbling

As part of the Gotha criminal police's examination procedures, it was found that the boy's initial information had taken on a life of its own in the community and in WhatsApp groups .

In the meantime it was also reported that there was a similar incident with a girl the following Monday. This information could not be confirmed by extensive police investigations.

The Gotha criminal police determined that the boy had spoken. The relevance of this event is currently still being examined. The situation with the girl currently only exists as a rumor.
The concerns of parents in children's institutions are understandable, but the unchecked forwarding of such information on social networks and information groups only unnecessarily fuels fears.
If incidents of this type become known, the police should always be informed promptly so that appropriate investigations can be initiated immediately.
