Twitter has been turned upside down since Elon Musk took over. After mass layoffs last year, the wave of layoffs does not appear to be over in 2023.

New layoffs this year too

As Bloomberg reports , the Twitter company has made further job cuts. The layoffs affect employees from the moderation and fake news team, which has already been severely weakened by the layoffs last year. On Friday, January 6th, at least a dozen employees were laid off.

In the Dublin and Singapore locations, Nur Azhar Bin Ayob, Twitter's Head of Site Integrity in the Asia-Pacific region, and Analuisa Dominguez, Senior Director of Revenue Policy, are among those affected.

There are also other employees responsible for moderating hate speech and harassment content worldwide.

Company confirms the terminations

Twitter's head of trust and safety, Ella Irwin, confirmed the layoffs to Bloomberg . According to Irwin, it made more sense to “consolidate the teams under one leader.” In addition, Twitter particularly eliminated those positions that did not have sufficient volume to be continued. Instead, the staff in the complaints department would be increased in the near future.

Chaos on Twitter due to the wave of layoffs

The new layoffs at the beginning of this year are just one of the many farewells since Musk took over the company. Almost immediately after this multi-billion dollar deal, the entrepreneur got rid of several executives, including the CEO, CFO and general counsel.

Shortly thereafter, a wave of termination emails , which, according to basicthinking, reached almost half of the entire workforce. In it, Elon Musk soberly informed: “Today is your last day of work in our company.”

To date, the company has laid off around 5,000 of its former 7,500 employees, including the press office in Germany .
