We repeatedly report about fake competitions on Facebook, in which users end up having to enter their data into a “competition form”.

After a user took part in a supposed competition, they now became the victim of a fraudster.

The police report: The man was notified of a competition run by a pet supplies provider on social media. It seemed serious, whereupon the Düren resident entered all the requested data on his smartphone. After sending the personal information, images of pornographic content immediately appeared on the display and an unknown website also opened. The frightened Düren resident immediately stopped all applications.

A few days later, he received a call on his cell phone - the number of which he had also given in the alleged competition - from a male person he did not know. This caller was referring to the “competition” and knew about the pornographic images.

He also stated that, based on the data available to him, he now knew all of the contacts stored on the man's smartphone. He will now contact them and tell them that the Dürener is a pedophile - but he can prevent this with appropriate compensation (presumably financial).

However, the Düren resident did not allow himself to be blackmailed and filed a criminal complaint with the police.

This advises: Be careful and prudent about who and where you disclose your personal information. Don't be blinded by promises of winnings. Fraudulent online sites are made to look so deceptively real that the user has little chance of recognizing the fraud in time.
