What could previously only be attributed to the cyberpunk genre is now a reality. Moving around in a virtual world is also at the top of Mark Zuckerberg's to-do list.

As the 'WDR', 'heise online' and 'Spiegel Online' report, truly big plans for the future were presented at this year's F8.

Mark Zuckerberg relies on highly modern technologies and wants to enable access to augmented reality for all of his users.

Augmented reality is the computer-aided expansion of the perception of reality . This information can appeal to all human sensory modalities. However, augmented reality is often only understood as the visual representation of information, i.e. the addition of computer-generated additional information or virtual objects to images or videos by means of display/overlay.

The F8 is a two-day developer conference that takes place once a year by the mega-corporation Facebook under the leadership of Mark Zuckerberg and presents, among other things, plans, ideas and developments.

Zuckerberg presented a 10-year plan that primarily includes development technologies in the field of virtual reality.

“We’re starting to build this new platform today,”

said the inventor of Facebook.

Smartphone in focus of technology

A device that almost everyone already carries with them will play the main role: the smartphone.

While Facebook bought the company Oculus three years ago, the sale of VR glasses turned out to be a niche business to this day, as the majority use their smartphones for games, communication, planning and much more.

So if you don't have Ocolus Rift glasses, you should be able to use the messenger.

The virtual “Spaces” can be entered via video call.

Facebook Spaces beta phase

VR-Spaces was released to the general public as a beta version and enables users to meet together in virtual scenarios after the technology was presented last year.

New are the super personal avatars, which are generated into an avatar using images stored on the platform and enormous effort using artificial intelligence.

With this cyber-self you can meet up with a maximum of three other users in the virtual world and play with each other, take selfies, listen to music or explore the virtual world.

Facebook also provides a number of 360-degree photos.

There are no limits to thinking

While it may sound less like cyberpunk fantasies to move around in a virtual world with your avatar, Facebook wants to go even further.

The mega-corporation is researching a technology to conjure thoughts directly from the brain onto the keyboard.

According to Facebook manager Regina Dugan, it's not about mind control or invasion of privacy, but rather, for example, about the ability to send text messages quickly, even if you want to leave your smartphone in your pocket.

The 54-year-old showed a video of tests with a woman who was supposed to be able to recognize words based on the vibrations of a device on her arm.

Future plans of a technology visionary

The Facebook boss published a very long letter in February 2017 about what Zuckerberg wanted to focus on in the next year.
