There has been a new page on Facebook for a few days now, which is called the “Peugeot 308 competition”.

image

The official Peugeot logo and a cover photo of a Peugeot suggest to the Facebook user that this is a “Peugeot” page.

But that is not the case. The site itself was not launched and created by Peugeot. The page was created on January 19, 2016 and currently has 6,192 fans (January 22, 2016 / 10:42 a.m.).

Who created this page?

The “ Info ” in which the IMPRINT MUST normally appear is yawning empty. Apart from 2 sentences and a link, you won't find anything here as a user. No name, no company, no contact option, nothing.

The only status post at the moment is:

This is the first time in Facebook history when we 3 are giving our admirers two new Peugeot 308s! We will publish the winners on January 31st

Do you want to win?
Follow the further instructions!
1. Click Like if you like the photo
2. Share this photo
3. In the comment write the color “Red, “Silver” or “White”
4. Visit the website: http://winpeugeot. net/

Over 20,000 Facebook users have already “liked” the status post and over 26,000 have already shared it! Here you can clearly see that many users on Facebook share things carelessly and without checking. The main thing is that you can win something. But WHO provides the prize, how you get it, who is even allowed to play is apparently not important to the users at this point. There is no information here that actually belongs terms and conditions of participation Which, by the way, are just as lacking as the aforementioned imprint .

In order to find out more about this competition, we follow the instructions and visit the website mentioned under point 4.

The user comes to this website and the button “Yes, I’m in!” immediately pops up. in the eye. If you click on this, a window opens that is placed OVER the page:

In order to take part in the competition, the user must fill out an offer in advance.

If you click on the link, a website opens again that looks like this:

The user should now enter their cell phone number here! We do not do that! Because this is a SUBSCRIPTION TRAP! Also visible at the top of the page: “Cool apps and games for your cell phone / To finish, “Stop” on 0900401050 €15.00 (subscription, 1x per week) “

So we click back to this competition page!

This window appears.

You have to go back now! Because they are waiting for us to accept the offer. We click on the link again and the above-mentioned window with the SUBSCRIPTION FALL opens again!

The offers can vary and can also look like this:

You can't get out of the cycle!

No matter what you click, you always end up on the page with the subscription trap.

On the website itself there is NO IMPRINT, NO CONTACT OPTIONS, NO CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION, NO DATA PROTECTION POLICY or anything else.

Conclusion:

Facebook users are lured into a subscription trap under false pretenses. There is never a competition form where you can win a Peugeot. We advise all users not to “like” or “share” this page. We have already reported the page!

UPDATE January 22, 2016 / 11:58 a.m

The page has just been removed from Facebook! It is no longer available. Nevertheless, we'll leave this post because, in our experience, sites like this come back all the time. We would also like to use this to show what users should pay attention to!
