Since November 2021, the scam related to child and youth pornography content has been gaining momentum. Criminals send supposed security emails to Facebook users. A link included takes users to a website that claims to belong to Facebook. The website asks for the current password.

As soon as the user enters their Facebook password, the trap closes.

The criminals use the spied-out password, take over the corresponding Facebook profile and spread child and youth pornography content via the profile. This is how the rightful owners of the hijacked profiles come into the focus of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, or NCMEC for short. This American organization reports suspected cases of German Facebook users to the police in Germany.

The police investigation has shown that the illegal access to the profiles comes from different countries.

The LKA BW advises:

  • Be careful with every email and Facebook Messenger message that contains links.
  • Do not click on any relevant links or enter your password under any circumstances.
  • File a criminal complaint with your local police station.
