There was a SEK operation on Friday night in the southern part of Gifhorn.

The officers from the special operations command from Hanover broke into an apartment and overpowered a 41-year-old there. The man was arrested without resistance and no one was injured.

The background to the police operation was evidence of a Facebook profile with clear references to the so-called “Islamic State” (IS).

The profile page also featured a person with a gun. An evaluation of the content led to the conclusion that the profile owner could possibly plan an attack in a timely manner.

There was also information on the site about a telephone number whose connection owner could be identified as a 41-year-old from Gifhorn.

As a result, the officers from the Gifhorn police station applied through the Hildesheim public prosecutor's office for a judicial search order for the 41-year-old's apartment in Gifhorn's Südstadt, which was ultimately issued by the responsible judge at the district court in Hildesheim.

Since it was feared that the 41-year-old might be in possession of a firearm and therefore pose a high risk to the police officers who intervened, the operations manager decided to request a request from the special operations command from Hanover.

Shortly before one o'clock, the SEK forces broke into the 41-year-old's apartment and overwhelmed him without resistance.

During the search of the apartment and the first interrogation of the German without a migration background, it emerged that he has or had no connection to Islam, let alone to Islamist circles.

No weapons, ammunition or other dangerous items were found in the apartment. ( Source )
