The claim

For a decade, claims have been made that a recurring video shows staged scenes of fake dead Palestinians to discredit Israel. Many assume that this material actually shows such productions.

Our conclusion

The video used as evidence of staged scenes actually shows a 2013 student demonstration in Egypt.

As internet users, we are exposed to a flood of information every day. This makes it all the more important to critically question content and check its truthfulness.

Once again in one of our fact checks: A video that has been circulating for a decade and continues to cause controversy. It supposedly shows “fake dead Palestinians,” but in reality it is completely taken out of context.

One video, many interpretations

For about a decade, the same video has been used over and over again as alleged evidence that Hamas is using staged scenes of fake dead Palestinians to discredit Israel. At first glance, one might assume that this video actually shows such scenes. However, a closer look tells a completely different story.

We reported on this video back in 2018 . Back then it wasn't "fake dead Palestinians", or "how can Palestinians move", but "fake dead Syrians", or or "how can Syrians move"

The fact check: The true background of the video

The clip is actually from 2013 and does not show staged dead Palestinians, but rather a student demonstration in Egypt. The students belong to the organization “Fratelli Musulmani” (Muslim Brothers). The logo of the Elbadil station, which is associated with the video, also indicates that it is not an Israeli station. The video was taken out of its original context and misused for political purposes.

Media manipulation and its dangers

The media plays a crucial role in our perception. Misinterpreted or taken out of context images can trigger strong emotions and influence opinions. The video above is a prime example of how media manipulation can work. It shows the importance of always being skeptical and verifying information from various sources before taking it at face value.

Conclusion

MIMIKAMA

The video does not show any “fake dead Palestinians.” It was taken at a student event in Egypt in 2013.

The example of the video clearly shows how easily content can be misused for political purposes. It reminds us of the importance of always adopting an informed and critical perspective, paying attention and carefully examining sources and facts. It's not just about finding the truth, but also about making well-informed decisions and forming opinions.
