The claim

Poster from the Swiss Confederation: Tell your neighbor if he heats the apartment above 19 degrees.

Our conclusion

The picture does not come from the office with the specified telephone number. There is no 200 franc reward for snitching.

An alleged poster from the Swiss Confederation has been making the rounds on social media since September 11, 2022:

“Does the neighbor heat the apartment to over 19 degrees? Please inform us".

The telephone number provided belongs to the press and information service of the Department of Energy. In the last line there is a contradiction that should immediately make you suspicious: on the one hand the call would be treated anonymously, on the other hand there would be a “200 franc reward”.

According to current information, the image of the poster first appeared in a relevant Russian internet forum. It is not yet known who the author of the forgery is.

In any case, the information in the picture was used without permission and improperly.

“There are neither such federal posters, nor do we call for people to be denounced,” explained Simone Hug , communication specialist at the Department of Energy, to the news portal 20 Minutes . The authorities are already looking into the case.

The image of the woman on the phone , which gives the fake a face, is offered by several stock image databases. The reason for the image forgery is a campaign that was decided by the Federal Council on August 31st: “Energy is scarce. Let’s not waste them,” is their slogan. The website Nicht-verschwenden.ch provides information about the current situation in Switzerland and gives tips on saving energy.
