Although the police have already published the fraudsters' scam in several reports, we would like to point out once again the way in which the fraudsters put the victims in such an exceptional situation that they simply hand over large sums of cash to strangers.

Minden: Fraud by fake police officers and lawyers

In this case from Monday, it was an alleged police officer from Minden who called the 61-year-old and said that her daughter, whose full name the person knew, had caused a traffic accident in which a small child had been hit. The “police officer” then also announced that a lawyer would contact the victim and another person did the same, posing as a lawyer from Minden.

The victim was so shocked by the story that she picked up the required amount of money for the “deposit” from the bank and handed it over at the postal distribution center (Stumpfer Turm) around 12 p.m. to a man who could have been of Arab or Turkish descent or something was 30 to 35 years old.

The police are now hoping that witnesses who may have seen such a person near the postal distribution center at the time in question will come forward. The man is said to have gone towards Detmolder Strasse. Who noticed a waiting vehicle and who noticed the man?

Please contact the Rinteln police on 05751/9646-0 with any information.
