A sharepic spreads a false statement about Henriette Reker regarding rape of women. Where does this picture come from?

Since New Year's Eve 2015/16, Cologne has been repeatedly linked to rape. It therefore seems entirely plausible for the mayor of Cologne to comment on the topic.

The problem is: She never made the following statement about women's self-protection! This is advice with a certain intention of perpetrator-victim reversal and misunderstood solidarity. You read:

There wouldn't even be half as many rapes if women stayed at home during twilight and night times for safety reasons.

This image with the fake quote has undergone a little development, so it is not so easy to see its origin and meaning.

Fake quote about rape

The original is a larger version of the image. In this form shown above, the right edge has been cut off. However, this edge is important because there is very specific information there.

The image itself has appeared several times in the past and therefore we have already been able to analyze it and know the original form:

Here you can see quite clearly: At the edge of the picture it says “in Satira by Uwe Ostertag”.

About Easter Day

Uwe Ostertag makes extremely questionable satires. In detail it always looks the same. Ostertag takes pictures of well-known politicians and adds a sentence to these pictures. Like here with Reker about rape. The image itself can be found publicly, but without text (for example here )

In the end it seems as if it was a sentence that the person pictured said. Distinguishing feature: “In Satira by Uwe Ostertag” is written in small font in each picture. However, many people seem to overlook this or, as in this case, third parties deliberately edit this image and the origin can no longer be recognized.

Again clearly:

The quotes on those pictures are not real! Words are put into politicians' mouths that they have never said in the same way or in a similar way. It also has nothing to do with “satire” if it simply lies. No matter how many times you can say “He/she could have said it,” that doesn’t make these false quotes any truer.

You can find even more of these false quotes and false claims in a separate article .
