Fake or not? This is how various requests for a status post on Facebook begin. A user wrote us the following:

“My wife received a report on Facebook that six vaccinations between 2012 and 2014 were said to have been contaminated. There is said to have been a recall campaign that we have only just read about. That means our son would also be affected. This worries us very much. But I still have doubts about the whole story. After all, our pediatrician would have informed us about this?? Fake or not? I'm not very smart on the internet. Thank you for your efforts"

It concerns, among other things, this status contribution:

If you follow the report, you will see that the page mentioned draws parents' attention to the fact that from 2011-2014 vaccines from the company GlaxoSmithKline were withdrawn from the market due to contamination and that this was done secretly and hesitantly.

Is that correct?

Yes! GlaxoSmithKline recalled batches of the six-dose vaccine Infanrix hexa in October 2012. The reason for the recall, which was public and precautionary , was possible bacterial contamination.

What happened?

Contamination was NOT found in the vaccines but in the production rooms. For this reason, the vaccines were withdrawn from the market as a precautionary measure. The contamination was discovered in October 2012 . The batches that had already been delivered and some of which had been vaccinated were recalled as a precautionary measure, as confirmed by the Paul Ehrlich Institute, which is responsible for the safety of vaccines.

So no contaminants were found in the vaccines! The recall was precautionary and no vaccination side effects beyond normal were found in the vaccinated batches. There was no danger to children!
