Heidekreis - On Monday night, a burglar was arrested who wanted to take a resident hostage while fleeing from the police after breaking into a residential building.

The 36-year-old forced his way into a single-family home in Bothmer. After he got into the building, he was surprised by a resident. He then demanded the handover of cash and jewelry while pointing to a firearm. The 33-year-old followed his instructions and was able to trigger a silent alarm unnoticed.

Police officers arrived at the scene while the house was being robbed. The perpetrator wanted to escape with the hostage in their vehicle, but was arrested. The victim remained uninjured. While breaking into the house, the perpetrator injured his hand and had to be taken to hospital. An arrest warrant was requested. The result is currently still pending.

The Central Criminal Investigation Service in Soltau has taken over the investigation.
