And once again a ban on dogs is being called for, allegedly by Muslims.

Here we will take a closer look at how serious these demands are in a leaflet from Great Britain.

“Muslims are calling for a ban on keeping dogs…this is what awaits us when the number of Muslims increases”

...that's what an obscure blog sounds like in its thumbnail. You can see a man with a dog holding a flyer in his hand:

There you can read in English that an organization called “For Public Purity” demands that the number of dogs in public be restricted because the Muslim community feels disturbed by it.

That blog then links to the article by “Deutsche Lobby”, which blatantly expresses its antipathy towards Muslims:

“First of all: I demand the immediate banishment of non-assimilable foreign bodies. I love dogs but I detest the foreign bodies mentioned above.”

Is the leaflet real?

In fact, many residents of Manchester, UK and surrounding cities found the flyers in their mailboxes in July 2016. The website mentioned on the flyer also existed for a short time, which is now offline but can still be viewed here .

Who is behind it?

This will probably remain in the dark as neither the flyer nor the website contained any contact details. Facebook page also provides no information and has not been maintained since July 2016.

What do Muslims say about this leaflet?

Manchester Evening News website wanted to know more and asked Muslims living there:

Fayyaz Ali, 39, from Salford:

“This must be a scam.
I am Muslim and Muslim law states that if you live in a non-Muslim country, England, you must respect the laws of that country. Muslim laws don't count here. For example, my parents are from Pakistan. If I had a problem with the laws here, I would just have to go back.

I think it's good that I can live here, but we should respect how people live here. We should be part of society instead of forming our own little society.”

Cheetam Hill City Councilor Naeem Hassan:

“We have dogs in our house in Pakistan and many of my friends also have dogs. Before we pray, we clean ourselves and stay away from animals, but Muslims also keep dogs in the house.

I think someone just wants to sow discord. I don't see any problems, people should just ignore the flyer. In the 30 years I have lived here, no Muslim has ever come to me and made a complaint about it.”

Conclusion:

We have already several times about alleged dog bans, but this too is nothing more than barking.

Bullying small-minded people take advantage of the insufficient knowledge about how Muslims and dogs relate to each other, usually only know that the animals are viewed as unclean and use this to create their own little conspiracy theory that Muslims want to ban dog ownership.

So an anonymous flyer was printed here + website + Facebook page to really incite people's minds against each other. But it didn’t “help”.

The citizens of Manchester took this anonymous demand from an organization that has now probably been scrapped rather calmly. And so should we.
